The opening scene from "Benny and Joon" is a picture of what living the creative life is like.
It starts with the sound of tinkling wind chimes and a shot of door knobs suspended from the ceiling. The driving base of "500 miles" starts up:
the film switches between shots of the artist's chaotic hand-gooped canvas, magnificent sunrise shots of a scenic railroad, and Johhny Depp slowly lowering his Buster Keaton book.
The intro song ends as the film switches to a 50's style sign of Benny's Car Clinic, and you're hooked.
I had a long post here, but decided to cut to the chase:
While watching the movie, my couch was draped with an indonesian sarong, to protect it from the chocolate chip batter I was mixing, on a cushion of blue fish pillows. (for the bowl, not me) The Book of Kells was open, as the Quiche cooled, while I tried to remember how to do triple interlock without graphs.
The Creative Life is simply: Where worlds collide, without compartmentalization.
